Who are we?

Cushing Field really started when the owner, Charles ‘Bud’ Cushing opened the flying school in 1983. Since that time the airfield has attracted travellers and adventurers from around the globe, with hundreds of pilots of all nationalities passing through it’s doors. At first, light single and multiengine aircraft were the most numerous types to be seen, but over the last decade these have given way to sports planes and ultralights.

The field is a private, public use airport, identified by 0C8 and is set in the flat farmlands of Illinois. The field has an elevation of 640ft MSL giving a LEFT HAND pattern altitude of 1440ft MSL around a single north/south grass runway 2821ft long and 180ft wide. The CTAF and Unicom frequency is 122.7 (which also operates the pilot controlled lighting) and ‘cushing traffic’ should be the call in the pattern.

Flight training and aircraft sales are carried out at the field and general aviation pilots of all levels are made to feel welcome. Facilities include fuel, tie-downs, hanger space, toilets and space for camping, as well as local restaurants and motels.

The postal address is Cushing Field Ltd, 4076 SR 71, Newark, IL 60551 which lies 175miles south west of Oshkosh, 60 miles south west of Chicago and 1.5 miles west of the town of Newark on Rt71 in La Salle County, Illinois.
